Željko Šašić  was born in 1969 in Serbia. He has put out seven albums and nine singles since 1994. Following are some of his popular songs. USA Today gives the names of several organisations that are taking financial and other sorts of contributions from concerned members of the public.

A university graduate, trained to manage and be in control, still finds him or herself in circumstances beyond his or her control. In the following graduation speech, by David Foster Wallace addresses traffic jams, long lines in supermarkets and other annoyances of modern life. He opens the possibility that there is more than one way to look at strangers in traffic, that they are probably frustrated as well.

My approach has always been to reflect upon the fact that I can really be doing many things at once. There is never a need to only wait. It is possible to read, to reflect, and to otherwise “multitask”. This would be true even in a world without iPhones and texting. When I am in line, an image flashes through my mind of planets in orbit. I see myself and everyone around me as orbiting bodies in temporarily close proximity to each other. Hearing a Chinese pop song reminds me that there are hundreds of millions of people  who don’t know anyone I know, people who have never heard the language I speak daily. On a deeper level, it is a gentle reminder of my minuteness in the grand er picture. At such moments, I view myself as a brushstroke  in a painting.

Even amid maddening stillness, many things are going on at once. In a vast world, there are many places upon which one’s glance can rest. David Foster Wallace seems to have discovered this, and to have shared it well in his memorable speech.
