When communism fell in the Former SOviet Union and in Eastern Europe, the task of building a post communist society was a daunting one. Along with the new wealth created by the rise of capitalism, many people found themselves without work as inefficient state enterprises gave way to global capitalism. Overnight, the virtues promoted under communism became worthless.
It became quickly apparent in the aftermath of the fall of communism that a desire for order and security is a strong and fundamental facet of societal values.One symptom of the change and the displacement that followed the fall of communism has been the rise of the skinhead and neo-nazi movements. It is essential to look at the needs and desires that make the skinhead and neo-nazi movements appealing to their followers. Very frequently, the extreme left and the extreme right are willing to violate political and social taboos by discussing openly sensitive social questions such as illegal immigration and crime.
