The Iranian government is well known for its enforcement of a death penalty for homosexuals. Less known is its recognition of sex change surgery in instances where there is no organic gender ambiguity, but simply a desire to change gender.

The Daily Caller website reports that homosexuals in Iran are now being forced to undergo sex change surgery. The alternative is to face he death penalty for homosexual activity. The State Department, instead of condemning the practice of forced sex change surgery, refers to the operations in Iran as “gender confirmation”, thereby lending legitimacy to the Iranian government’s harsh policies.

In the United States, people on all sides of the issue of same sex marriage are digesting the Supreme Court’s approval of same sex marriage. In the US, a policy of acceptance of same sex marriage holds sway, as well as the mainstreaming of homosexual behavior. How does the State Department, which is supposed to implement the policy directives of the White House, reconcile its policy towards Iran with the domestic policy of the Obama administration in the US?

One thing that can not be wished away by the US government is the fact that millions of Americans adhere to religious teachings that prohibit homosexuality. To what extent will the newly coined “right” of homosexuals to marry collide head on with the rights of individuals who, for religious reasons oppose homosexuality?

There is a disturbing tendency on the left to support and encourage “alternative lifestyles” in the US and to at the same time make excuses for radical Islamists who practice a murderous intolerance towards people of other faiths, as well as people who do not live their lives in accordance with radical Islamic dictates.

There is a place in the beliefs of religious people for tolerance of dissenting views. It involves emulating G-d in his patience, and allowing the exercise of free choice. The United States seems to have lost its moral bearings. Its domestic and its foreign policy have become downright incoherent. It is very likely that our government will prove that it is capable of mixing intolerance of religious beliefs with its own variety of secularism. It now seems that the US has decided that anything is OK, as long as you hate America.
