2015 is the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, in which the Turkish government exterminated through forced deportations and outright murder over a million Armenians. The Armenians are as indigenous to Turkey as ethnic Turks, and their designation as foreigners in their own homeland is clearly one of the critical blind spots of Turkish national identity.

No less indigenous to Turkey than Armenians are Assyrians and Greeks. In 1923, Greece and Turkey instituted a population exchange, in which Greeks went to Greece and Turks went to Turkey. The exchange was brutal, and many people lost their lives as they were uprooted from their homes.

Following is a video clip of an elderly Greek man who recalls his expulsion as a child from what is today the Turkish Republic.
