In the former Soviet Union, animation artists drew heavily on Russian folk tales for subject material. In the following cartoon, released in 1953, a little boy who lived with his sister disobeyed her warning not to drink from a puddle and turned into a goat.A handsome prince, and an evil witch that switches back and forth from bird to human drive the plot along its twisted and suspenseful path. It is hard not to wonder what it must have been like making an animated film in the Soviet Union in 1953.
