While the nation has been feverishly engaged in expressions of collective outrage about Donald Sterling’s idiotic racist rant, racist beatings of whites by blacks are expunged from our “national dialogue about race”. Breitbart.com reports that a beating of a white teen by a gang of blacks riding with him on a bus in Dover, Delaware was ignored by the bus driver, who did nothing to stop the beating at all. When the boy got off 14 miles from home and called his parents, the bus driver simply reported at the end of her route that he had gotten off the bus “for no reason.”
The video has been deleted from You Tube, although the victim’s uncle shared the video on Facebook.Under no circumstances does the mainstream media or Attorney General Eric Holder ever take action against black on white racist attacks. There should, in the media and under law, be no such thing as “reverse” racism”. If civil rights laws and bias laws are only invoked to protect blacks, and if no acknowledgment is given to the widespread existence of black on white racism, then there should be no civil rights laws at all. Civil rights laws should protect every single citizen equally.
Our mainstream media has decided that we need to talk about Donald Sterling, a racist millionaire with millionaire employees, many of whom happen to be black. Most of us will never be so wealthy or famous. But millions of us ride buses and have to deal with racism that is not only idiotic, but brutal as well. The misdirected media focus on only one kind of racism does not make the public more tolerant or enlightened. To the contrary, it pushes off further than ever the day when racism will be ancient history in America.
