As part of its effort to create the illusion of a city with no major problems, the Bloomberg administration is proposing a ban on any sugary soft drink that is bigger than 16 fluid ounces. Fruit juice, diet sodas and smoothies are safe from the ban for now until some sort of health menace is found to be lurking in fructose. Additionally, the controversies about artificial sweeteners is something that Nanny Mike has generously agreed to leave to the personal choice of New Yorkers.
Many New Yorkers experience a sudden spike in blood pressure whenever they hear Nanny Mike’s voice or look at his smug face. Perhaps a ban on pictures and videos of Nanny Mike or a warning before he appears on television would remove a serious health hazard from the airwaves.
In many neighbourhoods, lead poisoning from flying bullets, or malnutrition and homelessness due to the inflated parking tickets showered on hapless New Yorkers are a far greater health hazard than sugary drinks.
