CNN and Jewish Reporters

Recently, CNN hook up its offices in Jerusalem by firing its Jewish reporters. Initial reports were that all Jewish reporter were fired.Later, the reports were modified to include the information that two Jewish reporters remained on the CNN payroll. The Algemeiner, in an exclusive story has shed some additional light on this story, which cast CNN in the light of being less than favourable towards Jews on its staff.

First, the two Jewish reporters who remain on duty are on for only eight hours a week. Secondly, CNN decided that Jews would not be free to cover stories in the Palestinian Authority and in Arab countries. The Algemeiner reported as follows.

“According to the person involved in this matter, CNN’s belief, including that of bureau chief Kevin Flower, was that Jewish Israelis would not be allowed or welcomed into Gaza, the West Bank and other countries in the region, so it made the most sense to cut those who might become a problem.”

CNN has been unwilling to comment upon their hiring practices, preferring to hide under the bed until the annoying questions go away.

The Arab world needs a voice in the west badly enough that if CNN were to stand by its Jewish reporters, Jews could probably get into Arab areas and do a good job. Unfortunately CNN will not be setting any trends in the Arab world, but simply reinforcing them.
