This Nazi era Euthanasia poster reads ""60,000 Reichsmarks is what this person suffering from a hereditary defect costs the People's community during his lifetime. Fellow citizen, that is your money too." How far are we, really fromthis twisted ideology?"
Rick Santorum has upset the Dutch with his claims that euthanasia accounts for 10% of all deaths, and that half of the euthanasia deaths are involuntary. The Dutch have condemned him for practicing “fact free politics”, and claimed that euthanasia deaths are at most about a third of what he claims they are.
The fact remains that in Holland, a person can legally commit suicide. Doctors can and do push this further by making the decision for patients. This adds pressure on terminally ill patient to “die and get out of the way” It makes commonplace the idea of putting down a human being like a sick dog, something that the Nazis did as well.
Statistics on Dutch “mercy killing” are probably not accurately maintained at all. But they are well on their way down a slippery slope. Santorum has served notice to the European Union that he and many Americans do not worship at the altar of European social values. Santorum will not, unlike Obama be campaigning in Europe for the American presidency. The continent that has brought us Nazism, and euthanasia now has a welfare state that is collapsing under the weight of an aging population with a birth rate well below replacement level. These are people who do not stand up to Islamic radicalism, but cling to a secular humanist orthodoxy in which the value of human life from birth to the grave is debased and degraded.
There is an ocean between the oh so chic European and the Americans. This ocean is not only physical but ideological and religious. There are probably many Dutch people who are frightened at the direction their country has taken. Santorum should be commended for speaking up about “euthanasia”, a flowery sounding name for simple murder.

Dutch ElderlyEndlösung according to Santorum! Wow!
Dutch Lunaticwatch coming to you from the US of A: Rick Santorum, extremelycatholiclunatic and running for president-candidate for the republicans, mentions the Dutch euthanasiapolicy to frighten small town America for the Liberals. Cause we Dutch put down ten per cent of our Senior Citizens. Well, at least ten per cent of the geriatric losers which still dare to go to the Hospital, because the preventive elimination-policy leaves old age pensioners terrified to seek medical help. Rather they rot quietly behind their windows suffering from geriatritis before they go to the glorified abattoirs that we call ‘Hospital’. The only possibility to survive the Elderlyholocaust is a wristband which clearly, in four languages states “NO EUTHANASIA”. Better is to get a tattoo on the forearm or chest because a little wristband is easily overlooked by one of those butchers from Residence Gasping Breath in their dedication to the diminish the mountain of seniors citizens with their needle. People can’t be certain of their life as soon as they start nordic walking, buy dentures, pay with a handful of coins, wear rain hats and/or read the news in the morning paper. That’s how we roll in the Netherlands. And that awaits the senior citizens of America as well. According to the guy that seriously has a chance of becoming the next leader of America.
Another joint, anyone?
The list of “subjects” for euthanasia (murder) grows and grows. My only regeret about criticising Holland is that I gave Belgium a free pass. They do “mercy killing as well.

“Doctors can and do push this further by making the decision for patients.” where do you get this from?
Euthanasia is a rational thing, and it is voluntary and clearly following protocols, in 2010 there were 9 cases where this was in doubt. NOTE these 9 cases were still not involuntary!!
Do not make any link between Nazism and having the choice to do to yourself as you please.
I have no problem making the comarison between what the Dutch are doing today and what the Nazis did in the 30′s Ifthe comparison bothers you, that is too bad. I guess you can give murder a nice name like “mercy killing” and it becomes chic and fashionable. The political fashions of Europe are garbage. You can keep them.
“I have no problem making the comarison between what the Dutch are doing today and what the Nazis did in the 30′s”
Dear Selma Braun,
You are living proof of the total failure that history education seems to be in the schooling system of the USA. You have no idea whatsover what Nazi’s stood for, were planning and what they ultimately were doing.
You are in the same class of total ignorants like the members of the Charlie Company, 1st Marine Battalion, posing with the Nazi symbol of the SS. The SchutzStaffel!
You have no idea whatsoever what is it is to decide about euthanasia, how extremely dificult it is! How many times in your pathetic life have you been in such a situation that you dare to speak with such fake authority.
You try to spice up your judgement with: “it becomes chic and fashionable” You are great in making things up, sounds great, but nowhere in the Netherlands you will find people who will look upon euthanasia in such a way.
The political fashions of the USA with their moneyhungry bankers that ruin the world, with their idiotic political system that makes it possible that morons like Reagan become presidents.
Your country is the foremost roque state spreading war everywhere.
Remember your nice Mrs. Albright claiming that the Iranian children who died because of the sanctions against that country. She said: “It was worth it.”
Remember Mrs. Clinton laughing about the murder of Ghadaffi: “We came, we saw and he died! Hahaha.
The political fashions of the USA are not garbage, no they have been lethal since the inception of the USA for millions of people!
You have any idea, why in so many places of this earth they cry: Yankee go home!
The Nazis took a cold utilitarian view of “worthy” and “unworthy” life. Your rant is too difuse to reply to point by poin, but my greates fear is that of “experts” doing a profit loss calculation on the value of a human life. In that sense, I am fighting the grim, unrelenting march forward of bare knuckles capitalism. Our lives are all enhanced when we see something sacred in the value of life. I believe there are Europeans wh share this value system.
I’m Dutch and it’s true what mr. Santorum said, only the story of the braceltets is made up. We send our grandpa to a French hospital because Belgium does also involutary euthansia and there’re plans to legalize it again in Germany. We hope that our next government gets rid with this immoral policy. I hope for the US that this guy wins.
Besides ridiculous it is an insult to read the hastily arguments against our system which provides in individual wellfare rather than indoctrination by any religion. We kicked religious indoctrination out of our country (thank God if He is out there) for over 400 years ago when the Spanish invaded us. We were free thinkers and we will always stay free thinkers. When my mother explains me that rather than suffering in a hospital from severe mental illness she wants to receive a needle in her arm that is a clear example of free will to avoid needless suffering.
Tell your Republican candidate Santorum to stop swallowing psychedelic mushrooms cause the lies and statistical nonsense he tells in the press about how we treat our elderly fellow citizens here is causing irritation here. Many of his voters/followers are so well educated that they won’t even be able to point their finger on the right spot where Holland is on the world map. But OK, in the end, my upset doesn’t mean too much, Holland can be put 10 times in Texas I believe so nobody will worry about the reactions here towards your Republican candidate.
A hint for Rudi Stettner. As long as you didn’t experience WW2 by yourself like my mother did in 40-45 you better not suggest stupid relations between Nazi Germany and the Netherlands, go back to school and educate yourself at least.
We have two things in common. Neither one of us experienced World War Two and both of us have family who did. I am as free as anyone to make comparisons between Nazi ideology and modern progressivism. My own mother suffered painful terminal medical problems. I expressed my willingness to aid her in procuring any drug, legalor otherwise, to ease her pain. She did NOT want to be euthanised. I am old enough to have dealt with these issues in my immediate family.I do not take them lightly. Neither am I glib in my comparison of modern progressivism with Nazi ideology
Yes, suicide is not illegal in the Netherlands. We see people that are so desperate they want to end their life as sick, and do everything we can to help them get better. This includes spending government money on mental health care.
Also, it seems to work, US vs Netherlands suicide rates: 11.8 vs 8.5
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_suicide_rate
I think that far more money should be invested in pain killing drugs, including marijuana and other drugs not currently marketed as having medicinal value to give the terminally ill a pleasant time of departure from a trying stage in their lives. I do not understand or approve of “putting someone down” without offering this rangeof options. My nagging suspicion is that it is naked capitalism that drives us to market death.
